Itinerary

Day 1
Yichang, China

The city of Yichang lies on the banks of the Yangtze River in China’s Hubei Province. It sits at the gateway to the Three Gorges and isn’t far from the dam that supplies electricity for millions across China – the largest power station in the world.

Yichang is steeped in history and has been known by several names over the years. It was once referred to as Yiling, during the Zhou Dynasty, but this name is now used to describe one of the suburban districts just outside the city centre. As well as the Three Gorges and many other areas of stunning natural beauty along the Yangtze, the main attractions in Yichang include the Huangling Temple, the Sanyou Cave and Chinese Sturgeon Museum.

Day 1
Chongquing, China

Located in the Szechwan province of southern China is the city of Chongqing, which is perched on the hills above the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. It is the starting point for cruises along the Yangtze – which offers a gateway to some of China’s fascinating towns and cities. Otherwise known as Chungking, the city occupies the eastern third of the rocky promontory and The Liberation Monument can be found in the centre of the Old City. The area surrounding Chongqing is home to a number of delightful spas and resorts, as well as a number of scenic areas.

Day 2
Yangtze River, China

Coursing a distance of almost 4,000 miles, the mighty Yangtze River is the third longest in the world and more than 300 million people make a home along its banks. A cruise down the Yangtze is an excellent way to see a large area of China in a short time and an absolute must for tourists visiting this great country. The most popular route is between Chongqing and Wuhan.

This section offers a memorable 850-mile trip that can take between four and seven days, depending on how many stops you make, passing through the famous Three Gorges. The scenery is stunning and, as the ship passes through lush green valleys and narrow canyons, you will begin to wonder if you have been transported to another world. Ancient towns often visited along the way include Fuling, Shibaozhai, Jingzhou, Yueyang and Dongting Lake, revealing both the richness of local history and the colourful life along the mighty Yangtze.

2
Day 2
Shibaozhai, China

Lying along the banks of the Yangtze River is one of the river, and China’s most spectacular sites, the Shibaozhai. The temple is a stunning 12-story wooden pagoda and is a marvel of Ming Dynasty architecture, earning it the nickname “Pearl of the Yangtze”.
