Day 1
Kampong Cham, Cambodia

The port city of Kampong Cham is situated on the banks of the Mekong River, 45 miles northeast of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. There are many historical sites in the town including the Nokor Bachey Temple and the Wat Nokor temple complex, which is a fine example of where 12th century Khmer architecture has been incorporated into a modern temple. The two holy mountains of Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei (Man and Woman Hill) are both located nearby. Across the river is the Chub rubber plantation, which only operates at a fraction of its capacity but offers a reminder of French colonial times, when Cambodia was a great producer of rubber. Also in the town is the Mekong River Bridge, which was only recently completed and is currently the only bridge across the Mekong in Cambodia.
