The fact that Scenic refers to its fleet of 15 vessels as Space-Ships tells you a lot about what you can expect on board. With plenty of deck space to make yourself at home and five-star surroundings to enjoy, you will soon come to the conclusion that you could get used to this way of life. There’s the chance to sail all over Europe on popular rivers such as the Rhine and Danube, as well as exploring Asia via the Irrawaddy and Mekong. From boutique ships that have the capacity for just 44 guests to larger vessels with room for 169 cruisers, you are sure to find something to suit your tastes.
Scenic’s all-inclusive structure offers a few extras that you may not have expected to receive as part of your cruise price. As well as complimentary beverages throughout your cruise, free Wi-Fi and gratuities that have already been taken care of, your own private butler comes as part of the deal. There are also electric bikes to help you explore and a laundry concierge service to ensure you always look your best.
With exquisite finishing touches, comfortable furnishings and all the space you need, you will immediately feel relaxed when you step into your accommodation. There are various different suite grades to choose from, ranging from Standard to Royal, but even those at the bottom end of the scale offer fantastic amenities.
A complimentary mini bar will ensure you don’t have to leave your room to get a drink, the L’Occitane bathroom products will leave you feeling revitalised, and the slumber beds may make the choice of whether to get up in the morning a difficult one. Choose a Royal Suite and you can look forward to daily canapés, champagne on arrival, exclusive dining offers and €100 to spend anywhere on board.
One innovation that really makes a difference is the Scenic Sun Lounge system. Behind a sliding glass door, you will find a seating area that can be transformed into a balcony at the touch of a button, bringing fresh air, light and spectacular views inside.
With all meals and beverages included in the all-inclusive price, you never need to worry about where your next meal is going to come from. For buffet breakfasts, luscious lunches and delicious dinners there is the Crystal Dining Room, whilst each guest will also get the chance to sample the Italian flavours of Portobellos at least once during the cruise. Plus, if you choose a Diamond deck Balcony Suite or higher, you will be invited to enjoy the fantastic six-course tasting menu in the exclusive Table La Rive.
You don’t just have to wait until scheduled mealtimes to fuel your hunger, though, as the River Café is on hand from morning to night to offer snacks and light bites. Lastly, if you would prefer to relax in your own suite, room service can be ordered from the dedicated menu and delivered by your butler. Aside from the Italian offerings at Portobellos, many of the menu choices will reflect the region you are sailing through.
A range of public areas onboard these Scenic Space-Ships will offer places to relax, make new friends and enjoy the passing scenery. There are multiple dining areas on each ship, some exclusive to certain suite grades, and plenty of space in which to unwind. The Riverview Terrace is the perfect place to spend those sunny afternoons, especially as you will be close to the Vitality Pool when you need to cool off, and the panorama lounge provides a comfortable place inside from which to enjoy the views. If you want to treat yourself to a pamper session, there are various therapies available in the wellness area and anyone wishing to make room for extra dessert can do so in the fitness centre.
With many different excursions included in the all-inclusive price, there is so much to do in each port when you sail with Scenic River Cruises. There is the choice between Freechoice options and Scenic Enrich activities, each offering a different look at the destination. The former are labelled as either active, moderate or relaxed and will include things such as city tours, wine tastings and bike rides, whereas the latter will include a range of exclusive, in-depth activities which aim to show you more of the local culture.
If, however, you wish to explore on your own, there are some great options to help you do this. The fleet of E-bikes means that you can travel further in the short time that you have and the innovative Tailormade GPS devices are great for crafting your own tours. These hand-held guides will give you directions to various attractions and provide a running commentary as you travel around. They can even be used on board the ship to tell you about places you pass by but don’t visit.
