The Main River, one of Germany’s major tributaries, is typically cruised along on a Rhine or Danube river cruise, as the Main connects to both. As you ride along, you will pass Frankfurt, where we can stop to explore the museum along the embankment and admire mighty skyscrapers.
Würzburg is another of our stops. As a UNESCO world heritage site, it is an ideal place to visit to discover Germany’s rich history and culture. Würzburg is home to a beautiful baroque palace, along with many other fascinating sites. Or, head to Bamberg to try some traditional smoked beer.
The Main is 525 km long with 34 locks along it. It connects to the Rhine at Mainz and the Danube at the Main-Danube Canal. If you wished, it would be possible to travel across all of Europe via these rivers, or even all the way to the Black Sea.
