Neckar River Cruises

The Neckar takes its name from a Celtic word meaning wild water and is one of the major tributaries of the River Rhine. It flows entirely within the borders of Germany, rising in the Black Forest and flowing into the Rhine at the city of Mannheim.

The Neckar’s banks host contrasting sights that display the history of the area. The industrial section, between Plochingen and Stuttgart shows Germany’s role at the forefront of both historic and modern industry, whilst the section of river between Stuttgart and Lauffen displays a much more peaceful and bucolic side to the river. Here, vineyards and castles can be seen on the steep valley sides and cyclists joyfully ride parallel to the Neckar.

There are many major towns and cities along the banks of the river, some of which you will get to visit during your Neckar River cruise. It flows through Rottenburg, Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg but the most likely places you’ll visit are Heidelberg and the ancient town of Eberbach. Heidelberg is one of the most romantic cities in Germany and is also home to the country’s oldest university, whilst Eberbach offers a look into the past via its historic Old Town.
