Spotlight on Copenhagen – Brogan’s Experience

Our Marketing & Creative Design Executive, Brogan, recently travelled to Copenhagen to embark on a cruise journey. But before this, they made sure to make the most of exploring Denmark’s beautiful capital city.

Brogan said “I was so excited to tick another city of my list and I had heard wonderful things about Copenhagen. There were famed sights I wanted to see so spending a few hours here was perfect and the sun was shining for us too.”

Read on to find out more of what Brogan got up to in the city and her thoughts or recommendations.

“We took an early morning flight out to Copenhagen and were so glad we had time to explore the Danish capital. Time flew by on our short 1 hour 45-minute flight and before we knew it, we were landing in sunny Copenhagen. Arriving in the city at 9:45am meant we had plenty of time to wander before we embarked on our cruise journey. So, with that said, we decided to get the local metro service from Copenhagen into the centre and spend time exploring and sightseeing. We purchased a transport day pass in the Metro station, for just a small cost of Danish Krone and this allowed us to be able to travel various metro lines within the city, making exploring extra easy. The compact layout of the city and various Metro stops made navigating simple – much like the tube service in London. Directly from the airport, we travelled to Kongens Nytorv station and as soon as we exited, we were greeted with stunning architecture, a historic square and buzzing streets – it was a great first sight to be welcomed with.

With only a few hours to spare in the city, visiting the famous picture-perfect Nyhavn harbour was top of my list – I wanted to capture that iconic image of the colourful townhouses lining the canal. And wow, it was just like the pictures! There was a friendly and peaceful atmosphere along the canal here and locals were soaking up the sunshine on the edge and even swimming on the harbour. We spotted a waffle house on the canal-side so treated ourselves to an ice cream and coffee to enjoy the amazing weather.

To tick off those “must-see’s” in just a few hours, we ventured on a canal boat trip with a great guide who explained the history, architecture and stories of Copenhagen by the canal. In just an hour, we learnt and saw many sights in Copenhagen such as the Opera House, Christiansborg Palace, Amalienborg Palace, Church of Our Saviour and more. A true highlight of this canal boat trip is sailing by the iconic Little Mermaid statue inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale. This attraction appears to be one of Copenhagen’s most popular so seeing this from a less crowded boat was ideal. It was great to cruise by these top sight sand tick them off, but if you had a few days in Copenhagen it would be ideal to explore them closer. If I had more time, I would have definitely paid a visit to the city’s amusement park Tivoli Gardens.

Spending a few hours sightseeing gave us a snippet of the city and has made me want to return for a few days in the future to fully immerse in what Denmark’s capital has to offer. ”

Brogan loved Copenhagen, for its historical and pretty architecture, simple and easy to navigate transport and mostly the relaxed but quirky atmosphere of the city. She looks forward to hopefully visiting again in the future.
